About

Joey O'Loughlin is a documentary photographer, writer, and producer. Her work emphasizes the value of human connection.

Her first career was in television news, working in New York as a writer and field producer. She moved on to documentary production, and work at The Discovery Channel in Canada, where she produced award-winning series and specials.

Later, she went back to school to study contemporary American history, tailored to a journalist. There, she became interested in new ways of storytelling, and the intimacy of still photography.  Now, she focuses mostly on human rights issues, locally and internationally, often partnered with NGOs and academics.

Her photography has been featured in the New York Times, The Nation, Slate, and The Atlantic. She has appeared on PBS, NPR, and Al Jazeera America. Her work has been published in World Health Organization, United Nations Population Fund, and MacArthur Foundation publications.

Joey is a graduate of Columbia University's School of Journalism and The College of Wooster, in Wooster, Ohio. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
