A Stitch in Time

This group of female gynecological surgeons travel to remote locations to perform life-changing pelvic surgeries for women in need.   Teams of medical volunteers are assembled for short-term missions to hospitals where cultural and institutional barriers often prevent such care for women.

These photos were taken in northern Bangladesh, on the shores of the Brahmaputra River.  The doctors performed surgeries to repair pelvic organ prolapse on a floating hospital maintained by the Friendship Organization.
